Flasher SS 249, Intro

During WWII, my grandfather served on submarine SS 249, The Flasher. Still here, but no longer carrying the memories of that age, he has moved into an assisted care facility. He enlisted in 1943, at 18 years of age - now at 92, he is part of a rapidly vanishing group of veterans that served in the second world war.

I have been researching Flasher history for a number of years, but recently came across some things in my grandfather's belongings that I've never seen before in my research. The War Shot News and The Scuttlebutt, both local micro-publications, produced by hand on-board the Flasher at sea. I have just a few saved examples from 1945 that I will be sharing and intend to transcribe the text and tag folks that are mentioned in the articles. I will probably also start a blog for all of my notes on The Flasher, but felt it was appropriate to post these here. Stay tuned for more!
